Celebrating Media Icon and Accomplished Administrator at 71

Mr. Ade Ogidan, former Managing Director and Editor-In-Chief of Independent Newspapers Limited,
Business Editor of The Guardian Newspapers will be 71 on May 9, 2025.

Born on May 9, 1954, he attended Osogbo Grammar School, 1967 -1971, proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1972 and graduated in 1976 with a BSc degree in Sociology and Anthropology.

Ogidan worked as a Teacher in Ondo State after his National Youth Service in Bauchi State, before joining the Federal Ministry of Communications in Lagos as a Personnel Officer in January, 1979.

He became a member of the sales team of Lever Brothers Nigeria Plc (now Unilever Nigeria Plc) in September 1979 as Sales Manager until December 1983. He had a short stint with Estate Paper Products Limited as Market- ing Manager between Janu- ary to April, 1984 before he was appointed the pioneer Marketing Manager of Uni- versity of Lagos Press in September, 1984.

He later joined Neworld Ex- import Company Limited, a member of the Prudential Group as Chief Operating Officer from January 1993 to September, 1995.

Ogidan was the Marketing Manager of SS Adejoro and Company in Lagos before he joined the editorial team of The Guardian Newspapers Limited as Senior Business Correspondent in October 1995 and rose to be- come the Business Editor in October, 2006 till November 2016, when he left for the Independent Newspapers Limited as General Manager, Commercial.

He became the Managing Editor of the newspaper house in July 2016 and emerged the Managing Director and Editor-In-Chief in August 2017. He voluntarily retired from the company in December 2019.

He is presently the Chairman of Nadigo Communications Limited and a Director of Institute of Security, Nigeria.
