Egypt’s Omar Assar inflicted a 4-3 defeat on Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup in Tunisia, preventing the Nigerian from winning a sixth title.

It was the battle for a sixth gong between the two rivals and the Egyptian reigned supreme over the Nigerian star.

Aruna cruised past Cameroonian Ylane Batix in the semi-final to set up the much-anticipated face-off with his arch-rival Assar.

Assar also edged past surprise semi-finalist Salifou Abdel Kader with a thrilling 4-3 victory before facing Aruna in the final.

In an all-Egyptian women’s singles final, reigning champion Dina Meshref was also dethroned by Hana Goda.

The young star stormed back from two sets down to defeat Meshref 4-2 and claim the crown.

Goda secured her spot with a commanding 4-1 win over Nigeria’s Fatimo Bello, while Meshref had to dig deep to overcome Mariam Alhodaby 4-2.

Meanwhile, all four finalists in the men’s and women’s singles as well as their semi-final opponents have secured their spots at the 225 ITTF World Cup in China.
