Victor Osimhen reaction speaks volumes about Arsenal transfer interest as star’s feelings clear

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen cut a frustrated figure on international duty amid ongoing transfer speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are among the clubs linked with a summer transfer swoop for the 26-year-old, who looks set to leave Napoli this summer.

The striker played a key role in the Italian club securing their first Serie A title in 33 years, scoring 31 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions in 2022/23.

That fine form saw him rewarded with a new contract until the summer of 2026 with a reported release clause of €130 million (£108.9m) inserted into his deal.

However, Osimhen would fall out of favour at the Italian side and looked set to leave the club permanently last summer.

PSG and Chelsea were both in talks to sign the striker, as were clubs from Saudi Arabia, but they were unable to agree to a deal.

Instead, Osimhen would move to the Turkish Super Lig, with Galatasaray where he has scored 26 times in 30 appearances.

The Nigerian star looks set to move again this summer, with Arsenal and Chelsea among the clubs linked with his services as they look to address their lack of goals up front. The Super Eagles star is set to be available for a cut price fee this summer, with Napoli looking for a swift resolution to his transfer saga.

Osimhen scored the opening goal of the game for Nigeria in their World Cup qualifying clash against Zimbabwe in the 74th minute, before his side conceded a late equaliser in a blow to their hopes of qualifying for next summer’s tournament.

The Super Eagles are currently fourth in their qualifying group and know they’ll need to win their remaining four games if they want to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.

A video has surfaced online of Osimhen leaving the pitch after the draw, clearly unhappy his side dropped points.

It’s a sign, if it were needed, of the winner’s mentality and ruthlessness the Gunners’ and Blues are in the market for this summer.
