We talked about the need for TRUCKS and other vehicles to run on GAS (Compressed
Natural Gas – CNG) as opposed to diesel and petrol. It helps to REDUCE EMISSIONS, it is COST EFFECTIVE and SAFER.
To drive this, stakeholders must collaborate to establish a specific financial model, to support the initiative. It was also agreed that we need to scale, by bringing in more CNG TRUCKS to enable the transition.
Also required, are more facilities for TRUCK CONVERSION, MAINTENENCE and SPARES.
Increase in the availability/distribution /access and the ease of purchase of CNG are key success factors. The public sector is working to increase distribution outlets and the use of mobile refuelling trucks now exist (private sector lead).
Continous LEARNING and DEVELOPMENT should be encouraged amongst operators to support this initiative.
